SUPER SIC

After he was mentioned on an earlier issue by Mozambique, San Marino Post announced last year the issueing of a memorial stamp for Marco Simoncelli, nicknamed Super Sic. On March 7th 2017 the stamp with the in 2011 in Sepang perished GP rider has been issued. Sic would have reached the age of 30 on January 20th this year.
The stamp carries an image of the racing legend who participated since 2003 in the GP's with the number 58. The stamp is issued in the value of € 2, in a sheet of 12 stamps with in the left sheet margin a wheelying Marco during the GP in Brno.

 


Special post mark

Marco, who was born in Cattalico, was a beloved and esteemed person on the Italian race tracks. On the age of seven he already won the Itailan minibike class, and since then he participated successfully in many motorcyle and automobile events.
He lived in the village of Coriano which is located between San Marino and Misano. The Misano World Circuit, formerly Circuito Int. Santa Monica, has been renamed in 2012 into Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli and adopted the number 58 as its logo.
When the Grand Prix of San Marino is held on the MWCMS, which lies just outside its borders, Simoncelli's village is, together with Valentino Rossi's residence Tavullia, a place of pilgrimage for motorcycle lovers.
