MFN member Geert Erkens

Hello all

My name is Geert Erkens, my age is 68 and I am living in Wijchen, Netherlands. My profession was planner at a company in Ede.

Since 1 year I am member of the MFN, and this of course makes that I must tell which motorcycle I currently have as part of my introduction: a BMW R1200RT.

A BMW R1200 RT (not Geert's own bike)

Since the 1970s I collect stamps with motorcycle theme. And as Hans de Kloet recently wrote, my first was indeed the GDR stamp with the yellow MZ motorcycle.
In all those years until last year I often had to dust off the album to do again something with my collection. And now, since a year and a half, I spend more time visiting stamps fairs. My preference is to rummage through the 10 cent books of the stamp dealers. At the moment I have about 480 stamps with the motorcycle theme.
While browsing I also see many bicycle stamps, and I also buy these as a by-catch. I currently have about 210 of these. I also pick out stamps with communication as theme, such as communication satellites, transmission towers, postmen on bicycles, telephone/telegraphy and the like. I now have about 250 of them.

I would like to mention the catalog on the website as a wonderful basis for searching for the still missing stamps: thanks to the compilers!!

At a fair I came across the following booklet: a proof printing from 1996 of the Swedish series "4 decades, a nostalgic journey":

On this proof printing stamps with numbers 1967 to 1970.

For us especially stamp number 1969 is interesting, the rocker on a Triumph motorcycle:

Fortunately, the text on the booklet is also in German.
The whole seems like a nice addition to this stamp, and I hope that I show the fellow members of MFN something unknown!

So much for my contribution. See you at the next meeting!

Geert Erkens
