MFN-member Petra van Kampen

I started collecting stamps as a child in elementary school, following in my father's footsteps. My mother bought the new stamps for my father at the post office, and then she started doing the same for me and my brother. We also got the FDCs from our parents.

I became a youth member of the NVPV (Dutch Stamp Collectors Association) in Alphen aan den Rijn. I proudly brought my books along to show them off. Unfortunately, an adult member took advantage of this. I had beautiful Borobudur stamps, a block of four and a single stamp. He managed to swindle me out of the single stamp in exchange for another worthless stamp I didn't yet have. My father was furious, and I wasn't allowed to bring my books anymore!

I still collect Dutch stamps. I also have quite a few from the former Dutch colonies. At some point, you have finished that. There are still a few missing, but those are the older stamps, which are either nearly impossible to obtain or cost a fortune. That's when I started looking for a theme to collect.
I love elephants and collect elephant figurines, and then I started collecting elephant stamps. There are still quite a few of them available. It's a lot of fun, and I could definitely continue doing that for a while.

On the age of 48 I got my motorcycle driving license and started motorcycling. I have ridden a Suzuki Intruder C800 from 2008, see the picture.

Suzuki Intruder C800

It's currently still in the barn with 38,000 km, but due to health reasons, I can no longer ride it and unfortunately have to sell it. Anyone interested?

At Postex in 2010 (the national Dutch stamp fair), I came across the MFN stand. I became a member and started collecting motorcycle stamps. Since then I've built up a nice collection.

I had been a member of the NVPV in Boskoop for quite some years. I was also its treasurer for a long time, until it was dissolved. The association survived for 95 years, but due to a lack of interest, it no longer made sense to continue. A real pity.

I ran an accounting and tax consultancy for almost 42 years. This summer, I sold my business, and now I can take it easy. I'll be working with them until the end of May 2026, and then I can finally retire. I still have plenty of stamps to sort through, so I won't be bored just yet.

With kind regards,
Petra van Kampen
